¡Taxi!

Puerta de Alcalá, the oldest triumphal arch in Europe, stands at the northwest corner of El Retiro. Another in the series of Spain in motion, this features taxis scurrying around the glorieta, or roundabout, that encircles the arch. Madrid’s transportation infrastructure is impressive, and the thousands of taxis are part of the solution to moving millions of people through the old city every day. This was an interesting exposure, as I needed the shutter to be slow enough to capture the motion of the cars, yet fast enough to avoid camera shake, which would ruin the sharpness of the gate. With a lamp post for support, and a half second exposure, I created the result I was looking for.
